Lori Childers

Lori Childers’ oil paintings come from, “a unique point of view ... a confidence without arrogance,” says a recent collector. From her studio in Sarasota she paints with abandon. Her paintings are in private collections throughout the nation including The Royal Bank of Canada and she was selected by Saatchi Art Curators for their best paintings of 2021 collection.

Recent, Sarasota collections include, Arts & Central restaurant who purchased a large oil painting for their beautifully architecturally designed dining room and 40 Carrots Children's Center who acquired paintings through grant funding for their new therapy center. Childers is an active member in two selective regional art organizations which gives her the opportunity to be in community with fellow artists. A graduate of the State University of New York with a painting concentration, she has continued her learning in international master classes in painting.

Artist Statement

Slow painted, mysterious and unformed spaces interact with drawn objects, reminiscent of manufactured drawings. The contrast in styles and their place in art, and society more broadly, form relationships on the canvas, alluding to things made and memories felt.

I create a feeling of spacey gravity with image and mark making languages that bring the viewer into a conversation. The work is a meditation on subjects connected to home, nature, desire, and uncertainty. The familiar in relationship with the evocative.

Where the horizon is lost and found there is a lighter gravity. I’m choosing to go around and above the conventions of landscape composition. I create an experience with interest and mystery, an awakening from the familiar, with possibilities for the viewer.

These paintings are a distilled look at our shared landscape, as comfortable as home and a bold contemporary view of something never before seen.
