Make it stand out
Steph Gimson
Steph Gimson is a distinguished artist whose journey began as a celebrated makeup artist in London, where she became the preferred choice for luminaries across stage, screen, and music. Her clientele included icons such as David Bowie, Vanessa Redgrave, and even Prime Ministers, whom she prepared for media appearances, photo shoots, and red carpet events. During this period, when not enhancing the visages of the famous, Steph channeled her creative energies into painting, developing a profound connection with canvas.
In 2004, after a highly successful career in London and Europe, Steph relocated to Sarasota, Florida, dedicating herself primarily to painting and teaching. As a predominantly self-taught artist, she embraces intuition as her guide in the creative process. Her technique is characterized by an evolutionary layering process—building up and sanding down surfaces to allow the history of the work to emerge. Employing non-traditional tools, she incises, prints, and scrapes the surface to reveal underlying narratives, occasionally incorporating collage elements to add texture. Her work often exudes playfulness, with symbolic elements interwoven, achieving a harmonious balance where colors, values, and textures coalesce.
The result is a sophisticated yet joyful and innocent aesthetic.
